Old Warrego Water Park Entrance Sign, now located at an antiques store. Photographed 20 Feb 2020 Photo Copyright J. Gray |
Small amount of information compiled from the internet about the closed Warrego Water Park (aka Spelling Water Park?) that was located at Haigslea, South East Queensland near Marburg in the 1990's. I researched it after finding a historic entrance sign at an antiques store. (see above)
Please note that the location of this property is now in ownership of a functioning Motorcycle Museum.

HISTORIC NEWS ARTICLE FROM "THE GREAT SOUTH EAST" 5th November 1999
WARREGO WATER PARK
Warrego Water Park is just off the Warrego Highway at Haigslea, which is around 30 minutes drive south west of Brisbane, 10 minutes from Ipswich, and about 40 minutes from Toowoomba.
"Water slides are an exilarating experience."
The Twister is just one of the rides at the Warrego Water Park, and is a fully enclosed 50 metre spiral slide that transports riders at speeds at speeds of up to 50km an hour. All you do is lay on your back and let the force of the water take you twisting and turning to the bottom. The park also has slippery slides, bubble beds, rapids and waterfalls scattered all over the pool to entertain kids, and to ensure everyone's safety there are qualified life guards supervising the pool areas and slides.
The Warrego Water Park is open on weekends and everyday throughout the school holidays until April. Admission price for adults is $10 and children from 5 to 14 inclusive cost $7. Discounts also available for families and large groups.

Compiled information on Warrego Water Park:
Warrego Water Park opened around 1995, it was a smaller water park with around 3 to 4 slides and a few pools. It had a the twister waterslide and it also has a terror canyon type ride, which was apparently pretty good. It used the hill terrain instead of a tower. The grounds had numerous shade huts built with laticework. The huts were built by Max Farrell and son Matthew apparently. There was apparently also a little train around the back of the property and I am told the train driver also doubled as a "snake wrangler", dealing with the constant brown snake issue at the park.
Lliam Parslow "When I worked for Ipswich Water, we had to fill it from a fire hydrant and standpipe out the front. The water pressure was so bad it took us two days to fill and the multiple lengths of hose to reach the main pool was was numerous."
Carol Rowe reports" that all the equipment from Warrego Water Park was bought by the owners of the Kilkivan caravan park, who had plans to use it at their caravan park."
Annette Tween - "worked at the Warrego Water Park from the first day it opened until it's closing day."

It closed in around 2003 thought to be because of high insurance liabilities and water restrictions during the drought.
It was located on the corner of Butlers Road and Warrego Highway, Haigslea. The location in 2020 is now a functioning Motorbike Museum.
